Joanniel Creations On The Front Page Of Etsy

Here they are. My Boho earrings(middle row, last image) on the front page of Etsy. What a pleasant surprise! It's so exciting for me that I had to take a screenshot. As a result, a lot of new people were introduced to my shop and my Boho earrings got over 120 hearts.

I don't always check the front page but when I sign out of Etsy I am automatically brought to the homepage. When I signed out yesterday, there they were. Right in my face. It was kind of a shock to me. It's been a long time since I've been featured on the front page. It was nice to see a beautiful treasury there, and even better that I was in it.

My Heartsy Feature

I submitted my shop to Heartsy in the hopes that a feature on their site would create some good promotion for me. I was selected and featured on May 12, 2011. Boy was it ever crazy. FUN, but crazy. I had over 100 sales during the feature and the days after it. There are still 20 vouchers that have not been redeemed at this point. I am working on rebuilding my inventory so that I can resubmit to Heartsy. Sure, it's a lot of work but it's so worth it. I received so many wonderful compliments on my jewellery, my shop, and my customer service that made me feel very appreciated. I was even reviewed by one of my customers on her blog.

A huge thank you to the Heartsy community and staff for a successful and pleasant experience. To all my wonderful new customers, I greatly appreciated all your patience when I had over 100 items to ship out in a short period of time. Thank you so very much.

My First Batch of Gluten Free Goodies

I recently found out I am gluten intolerant. I also have issues with lactose and probably even casein but that is still to be determined. I thought that meant the end of cookies, cakes, pancakes, and cupcakes. I've since done some online research and discovered that there are some wonderful cookbooks and dairy free/gluten free foods don't have to taste terrible. I have also received lots of helpful information from friends with similar food intolerances to mine and I thank them very much for sharing their knowledge with me.

Today I made my first batch of dairy free/gluten free baked goods and yes, they are as delicious as they look. I cooked them a bit too long and they crumbled when I took a bite but I can just shorten the baking time.

After buying a ready made gluten free apple pie that tasted like cement with apples in it I was really discouraged. I still decided to buy a cookie mix to try it out and added eggs and vegan Becel margarine. I made some with chocolate chips and some with sugar and cinnamon. They taste so good. The texture is a bit different but I can totally live with that. Now I can't wait to try cakes and other pastries. If only I could enjoy a glass of milk with these yummy treats but for now I'm going to have to settle for a glass of water.

Cheese Tortellini Soup for the Soul

Cheese Tortellini Soup:  Makes 6-8 bowls of soup.

I had the pleasure of eating Cheese Tortellini Soup a few years ago at an Italian family dinner. I took a liking to it immediately. I didn't ask for the recipe because I thought I could figure it out for myself. It took a few tries but I finally got it just the way I like it.

For this recipe you will need:

Half of 1 medium to large white onion
3/4 of a small bag of baby carrots, sliced
3/4 of a head of celery(6-7 stalks), sliced - I cut each stalk in half to get smaller slices
3-5 heaping tablespoons of chicken broth, powdered - I use Loney's chicken broth in powder form
2 cups of frozen cheese tortellini
2 tablespoons of canola or another type of oil
Pepper
Water
1 large soup pot - I use a stainless steel one but you can use non-sick as well

Cooking directions.

It is best if you chop and slice all of your vegetables in advance. I find that frying your vegetables in the soup pot on the stove top gives the soup more flavor than just boiling them in the soup.

Chop up 1/2 of the onion and cook at medium low to medium in your soup pot with some oil for a few minutes while stirring to prevent onions from turning brown. Cook until onions have softened and are slightly yellow. About 2 minutes. Add sliced celery to onions and keep at same temperature. Stir occasionally. After a 2-3 minutes and the carrots. Keep cooking for 1 -2 minutes and then add your water. I fill up the pot to about 2 inches from the top. Add about 3 heaping tablespoons of powdered chicken broth and some pepper. Bring to a boil on high and then reduce heat slightly. Boil for 15 minutes. Add cheese tortellini. I add a bit more than 2 cups because I like a hearty soup. Boil for another 12-15 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

Serve parmesan cheese with this soup. I sprinkle a bit in my bowl and it is delicious. DO NOT ADD PARMESAN CHEESE DIRECTLY TO MAIN SOUP POT.

*NOTE: Keep in mind that frozen cheese tortellini is salted so it is best to under season with the quantity of broth and adjust it when the soup is done.

Feel free to adjust quantities depending on the size of your pot and how many portions you wish to have. You can also add leftover cooked chicken at the same time as the broth/stock. Don't want to add meat? No problem. You can even replace the chicken stock with vegetable stock. Someone even told me she added garlic and beans to the soup so you see it's pretty versatile.

Contest: Purple Earrings

Here is the new joanniel creations contest. These are simple and beautiful in a lilac/lavender color. Made with large faceted Czech glass, real silver plated bead caps, and real silver plated ear wires. They measure almost 1 1/2 inches in length and the beads are 11mm x 12mm. There are some minor imperfections on the beads. One tiny spot on each bead but it is barely noticeable. Sort of like a dent. I felt it was a shame to throw them out so I made these earrings with them for the contest. I doubt you may have even noticed but I wanted to be honest about it.

The contest is open worldwide and I will accept only 1 entry per person. To enter your name for a chance to win just send an email to joanniel.contest@gmail.com - Please include your first name, city/country, and contact email.

I have set up my account so that it sends an automated message, so you know your entry has been received. If this is your first time entering in one of my contests, please let me know if you would like to be added to the mailing list. This way you can stay up to date on sales, contests, and more. You do not need to request to be added every time you enter in my contests. If you have asked to be informed of future contests and/or sales previously, you can be certain that you are already on the mailing list.

Contest ends March 25th, 2011 at midnight Eastern Standard Time. The winner will be chosen at random and contacted via email. Good luck!

My Sweet Valentine

My new Sweetheart earrings. $13.99 US

As Valentine's Day approaches I still have no idea what to get my boyfriend. Every time I ask him  what he wants for any occasion he always says the same thing, " I already have everything I need." Aww! How sweet, right? That still doesn't help me. I'd really like to get him something special that isn't too sappy but lets him know how important and appreciated he is. I guess I'll go browse Etsy although at this point I don't know if anything I buy would get here in time. Maybe I'll find something that will inspire me to make my own little gift.

I will most likely have a sale at joanniel creations on the weekend of Valentine's Day to celebrate all you lovers out there. I'm undecided what type of sale I'm having at this point but I still have time to think about it.

Off to create more jewellery as my goal for 2011 is to have more inventory in my shop for you all to browse when you're there.
